 Packing & Unpacking

If you are packing then please ensure that the containers you use are strong enough to permit stacking in the lorry without damaging the contents. Ensure each container is not filled above its top level, which prevents sealing and stacking.

  • Do not make the cartons too heavy to lift. Half fill these cartons and then top up with lighter items.

Attics and Lofts

  • Unless this is fully boarded the moving team are not allowed to enter this area due to Health and Safety regulations.
  • Please ensure the contents of unboarded areas are sorted and placed in a convenient room.

Removals into Storage

  • Check that all personal papers and documents are retained by yourself prior to putting your possessions into storage.
  • Should you require searching through your stored items, this can be arranged at a small cost.
  • Cookers/Washing Machines/Fridges & Freezers should be disconnected prior to moving day, unless being disconnected by your moving team by prior arrangement.
  • The drums of washing machines must be secured to avoid damage, with the proper brackets obtained from the place of purchase.
  • Fridges and Freezers should be washed out with detergent to avoid unpleasant odours. They should be dried thoroughly.

The moving team are strictly forbidden by the Authorities to tamper with any mains supply.

Curtains/Blinds/Items Fixed to Walls

  • These should be taken down prior to the moving team arriving, unless specific arrangements have been made to arrange this by the removal team.

Clothing

  • Clothing already on hangers can remain on them as we can provide special wardrobe cartons for packing and moving.

Bedding & Linen

  • All bedding and linen should be folded and placed into boxes or bags.

Audio & Video Equipment

  • This is best moved in its original packaging.

China/Glass/Ornaments & Books

  • Generally, chests of drawers containing clothes can be moved full - please confirm with your removal surveyor.

Food Stuffs

  • Food stuffs cannot be moved into storage.
  • When moving direct from one home to another, ensure any packets, lids, bottle tops are secured and sellotaped.
  • If we are moving the contents of a freezer, condense into large polythene bags, so that the entire contents may be lifted and refilled in a few seconds.

Contents of Garages & Garden Sheds

  • These should be sorted in advance of the moving day; any rubbish discarded, tools cleaned and secured together with parcel tape.
  • Any flammable substances, old tins of paint, creosote, paraffin, matches, gas bottles or similar items, cannot be carried by AMC Removals, as this completely invalidates any insurance cover with us. Any other containers or bottles should be securely sealed with sellotape to prevent spillage.

Long Term Storage

  • Washing machines and dishwashers must be completely drained of surplus water as damp, mildew and seizure of component parts can take place when these appliances are being placed into storage.

Moving your Plants

 On the Day

House Plants:

  • Drain excess water from the pots.
  • Large pots should be placed in plastic bags to stop soil spillage.

Garden Plants:

  • Dig up garden plants on, or just before, the move.
  • Wrap the root ball in plastic sheeting, ensuring soil is moist.
  • Box up potless plants with cane supports to stabilise them for the move.

Stone Containers

AMC Removals will undertake to move stone or concrete garden features with care. Please note that extra staff may be required for heavier items.

At your New Home

  • If you can't plant properly, dig a hole and cover the roots to protect them from frost until you can.
  • Some plants don't like certain soils. A pH kit will tell you if soils are acid or alkaline.
  • Water well and fertilise. Continue to water until fully settled.
  • Trees and large shrubs may take up to a year to settle; look after them throughout this time.

Remember!

  • If you pack items yourself, clearly mark boxes containing pots. Tell AMC Removals about breakable items.
  • Protect houseplants from cold or sun. Avoid leaving them outside.
